The 1850 and 1860 censuses of Buckingham County record her birth year as 1836. The International Genealogical Index gives her birthdate as 7 August 1844. At marriage her husband was a resident of Louisiana. On the 1870 Census of Buckingham County, her niece, Mildred Hackett, age 16, no occupation, was living with Adelia C. (Hackett) Adams and her husband. They had no children. The old family register found in 1997 in Norfolk, Virginia by Edith Tanner of Virginia Beach has recorded "This book was given to Ardelia Hackett by her dear old mother June 26, 1853." The register was written in a text book that was obviously used by Ardelia's grandfather, John Poor, when he was a schoolmaster.Ardelia married 1 John L. ADAMS son of John B. On 14 May 1778, Martin Hackett was appointed overseer of the road from Fork of the Roads by Brook's over Polecat Bridge to Chandler. This was the same road to Dog Town Bridge that his mother had requested in 1775 after the death of her husband. (Caroline County, Virginia Orders 1772-1776, page 79) In Caroline County, 1791, when he deeded the 400 acres in Albemarle County to Thomas Alcock of Saint Mary's Parish, Martin Hackett was described as "of Saint Margaret's Parish" (Caroline County, Virginia Appeals and Land Causes 1777-1807 part 1, 1791, page 233).
Martin and Thomas Hackett were taxed in Caroline County from 1782 to 1787. On the 1790 Virginia Census; Albemarle County, Martin Hackett 2 whites, 2 buildings; Caroline County, Martin Hackett 1 white 4 blacks; Caroline County, Thomas Hackett 1 white 5 blacks.
Shortly after 1795 he removed to South Carolina. A Martin Hackett owned land in Caroline County, Virginia sometime before 1802 next to lands of Robert Chandler (John Frederick Dorman, "Genealogies of Virginia Families from Tyler's Quarterly", volume 1, 1981, page 344). In May 1804, his brother, Thomas Hackett, sued him in Caroline County, describing him as living out of state.
Martin Hackett is a DAR Patriot having performed patriotic service in Virginia.
Martin married 1 Faney Garrett CHANDLER daughter of Robert CHANDLER and Lucy MARTIN in 1778. Faney was born 2 about 1760. She died 3 after 1800.
According to another researcher, there is a lawsuit, Alcott versus Hackett, that documents that Frances HACKETT was the daughter of Robert CHANDLER who married MARTIN HACKETT and relocated to South Carolina.

William married Anna Freeman on 4 July 1813 (DAR National Number 337161). William Hacket is on MUSTER ROLLS SOLDIERS OF THE WAR OF 1812 DETACHED FROM THE MILITIA OF NORTH CAROLINA 1812 AND 1814. According to "Greenwood County Sketches", pages 248-249, four brothers, Robert, William, Elijah and Martin Hackett, Jr., were in Greenwood County, South Carolina, before or by 1820. They were the sons of Martin and Frances Garrett HACKETT of Virginia who had a total of 10 children.William married 1 Anna FREEMAN on 4 Jul 1813. 73 M iv Martin HACKETT was born 1 on 2 May 1785. He died in of Abbeville District, or Greenwood County, South Carolina.
Martin HACKETT had three wives; Mary LIPSCOMB, Adaline W. KING (1813-1839) and Matilda WALLER. He had no children by his second wife, Adaline W. KING, who was the daughter of William KING of Hanover County, Virginia. "The first home of Martin Hackett, Jr. is believed to have been near that of the Rev. John Waller, between Scotch Cross and Cambridge. Hackett, however, spent much of his adult life in Greenwood, locating here about 1831. His home, now 138 Hackett Street, is probably the oldest dwelling in the city. According to C. M. Calhoun who collected information in the 1890's about early Greenwood, the house was built before 1824 at Cambridge, and Hackett had it moved to the villiage" ("Greenwood County Sketches", page 249).74 F v Molly HACKETT was born 1 on 28 Mar 1788. 75 M vi Jestin HACKETT was born 1 on 7 May 1791. 76 M vii Elijah HACKETT was born 1 on 25 Jun 1792. According to "Greenwood County Sketches", page 248; the administration papers for the estate of Elijah Hackett reveal that he had no family except for brothers and sisters.
