Fifth Generation
10. Peter HACKETT Sr (John , Thomas , Thomas , Thomas ) was born about 1756. He died 1, 2, 3 in 1800/1810 in of Buckingham County, Virginia.
The only reference I have for the name of Peter Hackett, Sr of Buckingham County is from "The Genealogy in Part of Stephen and William Garrett", Clyde B. Garrett and Mary E. Gaither, published in 1926. On page 13 it reads "Obedience Hackett dau. Peter Hackett, Sr., sister Peter Hackett, Jr." Again on page 22, "Peter Hackett, Jr., b. Feb 14, 1786, in Va., son of Peter Hackett," These two siblings married into the Garrett family of Buckingham County. In fact, Peter Hackett's grandmother was a Garrett of Middlesex County. I also found the name Peter Hacket in the Buckingham County Tax Lists of 1813 and 1814, along with another Peter Hacket, Jr. These must have be post-humus references as I believe that Peter Sr. had died by 1810.
On the 1788 Virginia Tax List of Buckingham County there were no Hacketts. On the 1790 Census of Virginia were Nelson Hackett in Greenbrier, Redmon Hackett in Nansemond, Martin Hackett (with 2 tithes) in Albemarle, Basil Hackett in Augusta and Martin and and Thomas Hackett in Caroline.
In 1797 in Buckingham County, Hacket and Prince sold 100 acres to Stephen Garrott (Roger G. Ward, "Buckingham County, Virginia Records land Tax Summaries and Implied Deeds 1782-1814", volume 1, 1993, page 138).
On the 1810 Census of Buckingham County, Peter Hackett Sr's family can be found, but he is not with them. The head of household was his son, Thomas Hackett. His namesake son, Peter Hackett Jr. was living separately and not listed as "junior". There were two additional sons, a daughter the age of Obedience Hackett, and an older woman who would have been his wife. On the Personal Property Tax List of Buckingham County, Virginia in 1813 and 1814 there were Peter Hacket, Jr with two tithes and also Thomas Hacket and Peter Hacket with one tithe each.
Peter married Amanda SUTHERLAND. Amanda was born 1 before 1765. She died 2 after 1820.
I have found no documentation for her name, but some of the Hackett descendants in Smith County, Tennessee say their ancestress was Amanda Sutherland. A great great grandson of William Temple Hackett, Peter, Jr.'s son, said that the Pleasant Shade area Hacketts trace their ancestry back to Normandy, France. The earliest known Hackett was William Peter Hackett, Sr., born in England and moved to Charlottesville, Virginia in the 1700s. He was married to Amanda Southerland Hackett. They also refer to Peter, Jr., who went to Smith County, Tennessee, as "William Peter Hackett".

Woodson was born about 1808 in Albemarle County, Virginia. He died on 12 Mar 1862 in Missouri. 12. Thomas married Mary in 1783/1793. Mary was born 1 in 1765/1784 in of Chesterfield County, Virginia. She died 2 in 1810/1820 in of Buckingham County.
Mary was the widow of William Shepherd when she married Thomas Hackett. She was probably born before 1760 and possibly earlier. In 1799, in Buckingham County, Virginia, when she signed receipts for her orphan daughter, Anne Shepherd, born about 1780, others signing were William, John and David Shepherd (sons?) and Thomas Hackett. In February 1811 and January 1816, the request for payments were to Chs. Yancey and Thos. Hackett and signed by Ann Shepherd.

On 9 March 1775 Frances Hackett requested leave to turn a road leading from Polecat Bridge to Dog Town Bridge in Caroline County, Virginia Order Books. Frances Hackett was on the 1787 Personal Property Tax List of Caroline County, Virginia as a non-tithable.
Fanny seems to be related to Chiles and Martin Hackett. A Martin Hackett owned land in Caroline County, Virginia sometime before 1802, next to lands of Robert Chandler (John Frederick Dorman,"Genealogies of Virginia Families from Tyler's Quarterly", volume 1,1981, page 344).
