First Generation

1. Captain Thomas HACKETT (possible father) was born 1 before 1631 in of Corotomen, Lancaster County, Virginia. He died 2 in 1655/1656 in Lancaster County, Virginia. The will 3 of Thomas HACKETT was dated on 25 Oct 1655 at Lancaster County, Virginia. The estate inventory 4 of Thomas HACKETT was dated on 11 Feb 1656/1657 at Lancaster County, Virginia. His will was probated 5 on 20 Feb 1656/1657 at Lancaster County, Virginia.

Captain Hackett, of Lancaster County, Virginia, and his unknown first wife, are placed only as POSSIBLE parents of Thomas HACKETT of Middlesex, Virginia. Before 1663 the Parish of Christ Church, Middlesex County was the Parish of Lancaster. There are also records of Captain HACKETT in Barbados.

A James NUTTER, who settled in Lancaster County, Virginia, was brought over in 1652 as an indentured servant by Captain Thomas HACKETT. Captain HACKETT received 800 acres for transporting persons on 9 June 1652 ("Early Virginia Immigrants 1623", page 243). Thomas HACKETT was a Burgess from Lancaster County in the Virginia Assembly of 5 July 1653 (Tyler's "Virginia Biography", volume 1, VIR Ref 920T VI). Although he married twice, there is no record of any children for him. His will describes legacies of land to his four DENHAM step-children, Richard, William, Susanna and Elinor. Mary was described as his "now wife". His step-daughter, Susan DENHAM, received land that was part of 800 acres on the upper northwest side of Corotoman River, "a tract of 230 acres which was described as land given by Thomas HACKETT to Susan DENHAM 25 October 1655".

He had the following children:

+ 2 M i Thomas HACKETT

Thomas married (2) Mary. Mary died 1 about 1659 in of Lancaster County, Virginia.

Mary was a deceased widow on 20 October 1659 in Lancaster County, Virginia. John Sharpe and Susanna Cole, widow, were connected with her estate. Thomas Hackett was Mary's second husband.
Her first husband was likely the William DENHAM who made a headright claim in 1639, for 200 acres (meaning four importations as fifty acres was per head). Interestingly there is a headright clain in 1652, 800 acres claimed by Captain Thomas HACKETT, meaning sixteen heads. Both accounts included John MIDDLETON and Elinor ELLIS.
