TURK ~ Either for MacTurk (Mac Tuirc), a Scottish name found in Antrim, Ireland, or more often an abbreviated form of TURKINGTON, An English toponymic closely associated with County Armagh, Ireland since the 17th Century. Sally Turk was my great, great, great grandmother. Her parents were Thomas and Ann Turk, her grandparents were Thomas and Margaret Turk and her great grandparents were Robert and Margaret, the immigrants. Sally lived at Moorman's River in western Albemarle County, Virginia, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Her uncle James Turk owned a farm in the area which was bequeathed to her father, but shortly thereafter, all of the Turks moved on to Tennessee, leaving Sally behind with her husband, Thomas C.
